The Compassion of Jesus

I’ve touched on this briefly in an earlier post, but the other day, I read about Peter and John healing a man who was lame. Every day kind people would bring him to a gate in the temple so that he could try to get some money. I imagine that he had no options. I’m sure a lot of people walked right by him, while others dug deep and gave him money.

One day Peter and John walked by. They had something better to offer. The best thing that the lame man could receive, Jesus. They told him to get up and walk and it says that the man immediately began leaping and praising God. Not only was he physically healed, but he was emotionally and spiritually healed as well. That man was so thankful and joyful in his new found relationship with God, he went all the way to the Sanhedrin to back Peter and John up when they were questioned.

This story reminds me of how compassionate Jesus is to those who struggle. We all have deep and painful struggles. They never look the same, but they are all valid. Mine happens to be OCD and anxiety. I love how Jesus is never impatient with me. Sometimes I cannot pray without it being a compulsion. Sometimes I really struggle with studying my Bible. It is often really difficult for me to sit through sermons with a racing mind. And Jesus never gets tired of me. He never gives up on me. He never ignores me. He truly understands what I struggle with more than anyone else. And His love for me is baffling.

I love this Kaitlin! I struggle with prayer, Bible reading and sermons too, at times because of my OCD. I’m so thankful that we have such a patient and loving Lord.

Hi, I came across your blog. Thanks for this post. I really relate to those same struggles. I have a hard time “feeling” the compassion of Jesus because of everything OCD throws my way.

    1. I’m so glad that you ended up here! Sorting out my relationship with God and what OCD is telling me is so difficult. I know that He understands our struggle and wants us to know that He is beside us. Even though many days it is hard to feel that He is near. I’m so glad you stopped by!
